Did you watch the Tony awards?
I haven’t seen any of the nominated plays for the first time in a long time, nor am I one of the lucky ones to have a ticket for Hamilton. On our last two trips to NYC, that ticket was the hottest one in town…at $400 a ticket. Gulp.
Family health matters of beloved grandparents have occupied this writer’s already cluttered headspace, but my language radar is working just fine. Flopping on the couch when we got home, I found the Tony awards, an awards show I never miss. Damn. I forgot to tape them. Sigh. Well, let’s watch anyway. Imagine my delight when composer/lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda, already impressive in the car karaoke of the week, delivered a sonnet to thank his wife Vanessa for being his creative muse.
Giving it up to the star and creator of that musical-I-may-never-see is a generous move, I know. Go ahead and applaud. I’m in that kind of mood.
I encourage you to watch this beautiful and heartfelt thank-you speech… and yes, that was my girl Carole King announcing the nominations. DOUBLE DELIGHT!!!
That’s all I’ve got. But let it soak in today. June is the most glorious month of all.
